Coming on the heels of their 10th-inning walk-off win on Friday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled to a 2-0 lead in the World Series Saturday despite losing superstar Shohei Ohtani to a shoulder injury.
LA manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani suffered a subluxation of his left shoulder in the team's press conference following Game 2. Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto was the star of the night, giving up only one hit, two walks, and striking out four (including Aaron Judge twice) in six innings of work (86 pitches). Yamamoto's only mistake of the night came on a 4rd-inning pitch to Juan Soto, who hit it over the fence.
Dodgers 1st-basemen Freddie Freeman, the hero of Friday night, hit another home run in the third inning immediately following Teoscar Hernandez's homer. For the first time this post-season, the two went back-to-back.
The Yankees were able to make things interesting in the 9th inning before leaving the bases loaded.
Yankees star and likely season MVP Aaron Judge is now 1-for-9 with six strikeouts in the World Series and 6-for-40 (.150) with 19 strikeouts in the postseason. I'm not sure how New York got this far with him playing like that, but the chances of them actually winning without an increase in his production are slim.
The Dodgers now lead the series 2-0, with Game 3 taking place Monday at 8:08 p.m. EST.
