Hi all! The results of the HKJPSG Cross Community Cultural Challenge are out! @orientalhub had posted this post announcing all winners from each community. I urge everyone to go have a look and read all the awesome content that were produced through this challenge.
I recalled seeing @jrvacation commenting somewhere, that they were initially afraid that there won't be enough entries to even fill the top 3 spots. I have to admit that I shared the same fear 😅. In the end, it is great to know that our fears were unfounded and we ended up with 8 awesome posts from Singapore.
I am honored to be the judge from Singapore, and it is really not an easy task to decide which articles should be in the top 3. I can see time and effort being put into all entries and was difficult for me to have to pick just 3. But the choice still has to be made. Before I showcase the winners, I have to repeat that these are the judging criteria for this contest:
- What cultural aspect is being discussed?
- Why is it chosen and what is the significance?
- The depth on the topic
Below are the winning entries and why they are picked:
Winner @iammegankylie
Travelog 05 | Japan Series: Distinct and Grounded Way of Life
Firstly, this is one of the few articles from Singapore that focuses on culture. In addition, I prefer posts that talks about the culture of another community. This post by @iammegankylie talks about the Japanese culture of being polite and respectful to others. Through her beautifully taken pictures, she also shared some of the Japanese traditions such as wearing kimonos, doing Temizu and practicing Yabusame.
1st runner-up @seandeanayao
[EN/中文/日本語] Train | Subway | 地下鉄 | 列車 (HKxJPxSG Vol.1.0)
This article by @seandeanayao is interesting because it talks about the subway systems of each community and through that brought out the cultural aspect of each community. For instance, Japanese train etiquettes showed their politeness and respect for others and the design of the Hong Kong's MTR showed how much they value efficiency and their fast pace of life.
2nd runner-up @taco.cat
[HK-JP-SG Cross Community Challenge] Uniquely Singaporean: Hawker Centres! 小販中心! ホーカーセンター!
Finally, in 3rd place is this article by @taco.cat. The article is not discussing culture of another community, but it brought out the important Singaporean food culture. Particularly, our unique hawker centre culture which I personally have not seen in any other cities. The diversity, affordability and the quality of hawker centre food are the very reasons why I always recommend my foreign friends to experience our hawker centres. I will tell them that if they have not tried our hawker centre food, you have not been to Singapore!
Once again, congratulations to all winners! For the other participants, you guys gave me a difficult time choosing the winning entries. I really appreciate all the hard work and time that were put in to write your articles. Please keep up the good work and look forward to the next contest/challenge!
Finally, thanks again to all organizers and participants from the #HK #Japanese and #TeamSingapore communities for making this challenge possible!
Woohoo!! Well done #TeamSingapore!!
Definitely agree with on your comments about the 2nd runner up! Our hawker centres are the most under-rated tourist attraction!! Well .. .. probably STB thinks that the ROI on the marketing efforts are best used to promote those atas venues like MBS, Sentosa, etc.
