Great Iqbal said

Sahibzada Sultan Ahmad Ali sb speaking about humiliation of humanity in past because of ignoring the soul.
اقبال عظیم نے کہا تھا:
بزرگوں سے بچپن میں ہم نے سنا تھا
کہ ماضی میں دستورِ مہر و وفا تھا
تو پھر قیس و فرہاد کس دور میں تھے
وہ چنگیز و تیمور کا عہد کیا تھا؟
وہ طائف میں کیوں سنگ باری ہوئی تھی
سرِ کربلا خون کس کا بہا تھا؟
بزرگوں سے بچپن میں ہم نے سنا تھا
کہ ماضی میں دستورِ مہر و وفا تھا
اگر ماضی میں دستورِ مہر و وفا تھا تو پھر انسان نے فرعانۂ(فرعون کی جمع) مصر کے دور میں انسان نے جو تکلیف اٹھائی،دیگر استبدادی اور سامراجی قوتوں کے ہاتھوں انسانیت پستی رہی مرد بھی پستے رہے،خواتین بھی پستی رہیں،بچے بھی پستے رہے ، انسانیت پستی رہی جن کے قدموں تلے روندی جاتی رہی،وہ سارے ادوار کون سے ہیں؟وہ سارے کے سارے وہ ادوار ہیں جن میں انسان نے ہمیشہ اپنے بدن کو اپنی روح پہ مسلّط رکھا اور روح کا انتقام یہ ہوا کہ اُس نے ایسی روشنی دینا بند کر دی جس وجہ سے انسان اذیّت اور ابتلا کا شکار ہوا۔

The great Iqbal had once said,
"We used to hear from our elders that the past was an unbroken chain of love and affection. But we used to wonder was it not in the past that Qais and Farhad faced the trials and tribulations of love. Did the past not see the barbarous rule of Taimur and Chengis? Did the horrific incident of stone-pelting in Taif not happen in past? It was also in the past that Hussain (A.S) brutalised in Karbala. We used to hear from our elders that the past was an unbroken chain of love and affection."
If the past had been unbroken reign of love and affection, how come the humanity had been brutalised by Pharaohs of Egypt. The grinding rule of the exploitative powers kept humanity in chains. Men, women and children remained under the grinding yoke of evil powers. The humanity in general had been trampled upon. Can we ignore all those dark periods of history? The defining feature of these dark periods of history is that in them humanity preferred the needs of body over the needs of the soul. Consequently, shut from all light of the soul, the humanity had to face deep trouble and humiliating misery.
