It's not just that he's wrong. Or that his legacy in social contact theory has been an intellectual justification for horrible things. It's not just that his concept of terms such as "rights", "nature", "war", "sovereign", "subject", etc seem simplistic/sophomoric compared to how they've been used by those who built on and expanded his work.
It's that, honestly... He's not that great of a writer and could have benefitted from an editor pushing for him to be a tad more concise while making uncomplicated points in the lead up to larger ones.
Whenever I get back to the writing I put on hold a few months back, I think I'm gonna take a hatchet to it, inspired to learn from his mistakes.
