Does this chart look familiar to you?

Looks a bit like this, doesn't it?

But it is actually...

So we are averaging around 8000/9000 daily unique posters/commentators at present.

Those are the daily counts though, what about the past week, fortnight, and month, etc?

7 days
select count(distinct author) from comments where created > getdate()-7
18446

14 days
select count(distinct author) from comments where created > getdate()-14
23720

28 days
select count(distinct author) from comments where created > getdate()-28
32402

On the 30th January 2018, 41288 accounts posted, the ATH. I posted on that day on one account.

In the past week, I have posted on abh12345, zapncrap (for actifit), steemcommunity (power-up league), and via automated comment on misterengagement, and on Thursday, all 4.

There were 8500 unique posters/commentators on Thursday. Remove promotion bots, community accounts, apps, other automated comments (bookkeeping, the spell-checker, etc), and how many individuals do you think posted?

8000?

4000?

2000?

This is in response to a message I received today - I'm pretty sure we don't have 500,000 active users, whatever you choose to base 'active' on.

I will choose 4000 as that is the middle of the road and 2000 just seems too low. I knew it was fairly bad and depressing, but than again there seems to be fewer of us engaging regularly. Pretty sad how greed and price dictates how busy this place becomes, but saying that how stupid are they as it does benefit us.

Seems low, but there are users with more accounts than me, and we have a lot of auto commentary / community accounts.

Those here are benefiting, as long as there is a price move down the road (which I think there will be!)

I think there will be as well and I know it is bitter sweet as the benefits are great at the same time. I would much rather see the price drop and everyone on here benefit whilst the greedy short sighted ones are away.

Big numbers look good to people, I prefer real.. then we know what we are working with 😉

I prefer "real," too... it establishes a baseline from which we can grow. And "WE" are going to be the ones tasked with this, because there's no magical "they" about to ride in and save the day.

=^..^=

Without sounding too negative, I don't think we can do much to help growth unless we bring applications or businesses in, which in turn bring users who wish to use these.

Absolutely.

No more active, individual people than there were 2 years ago. That is a tough pill to swallow.

Thursday seemed like a slowish kind of day to me, So I would say the low end number of 2000. I made a few comments but am only one person. I had fewer comments on Friday than Thursday, but my commenting has been on the down side as of late.

I think many have eased off on the commentary of late, but there's always today's post to find out if that's the case.

At least my vote bucket has only over flowed for about a 2 hour stretch this week, first time in a very long time I sat at 100% for more than a few minutes. So sort of an odd week, also i have seen a few post that won't open in steemit, they open in steemwallet and of course file not found. A few others saying that they could not comment at all, so I guess the dev's have been trying to do some tweaking or something this week. Looking forward to the post, I'll see it when I wake-up, have a good evening .

Once we go up, all the others who left will be posting once again saying “I’m back guys” 😂😂😂

Yep!

And I don't feel like supporting these people, which means they will likely leave again at the end of the next bull run :D

That's ok I'm here to receive your support. Lol

That is freaking brilliant.

I would have to go with 4000. However 2000 would not surprise me

4000 seems more generous, but still - not a lot!

I would go for 2000 too.. 4000 users would go well on friday! Hahaha..

Posted using Partiko Android

2000 for me too, we can all fit in the same disco :D

These days it feels like 2,000 as well! Crazy to see the correlation between users and price although we sort of knew it already. It may be a good idea to potentially do a Steem account giveaway with some Steem to get users active and potentially reversing the trend!

Posted using Partiko iOS

It sure does.

Accounts offering delegation for new users can't give that SP away at present!

I'm going to guess somewhere in the 5000 account range. It's not much, but it strikes me as a growing "core," and that's a good thing.

Here are the LONG term ramifications:

Those of us who are active and in it for the long haul are slowly building our bases... and "proportionately" gaining ground relative to the automatons and cash grabbers. Every time I power up 10 Steem, it's 10 Steem NOT going to a bot.

As we build our bases, and — I would hope — continue to reward active newcomers with our growing SP, we will hopefully be building a larger active base of users. Add in things like the tenkminnows initiatives and others... we might just be the fastest growing subsegment of the Steem user base.

And that has to be a good thing!

=^..^=

Positive words, thanks for that :)

There is certainly a core group, and those here now deserve good times in future.

Problem is that at this rate, we'll eventually run out of redfish to support towards minnowhood... ☹

could it be only 2000 people active here? i feel like i should recognise everyone 😀

Posted using Partiko Android

heh :)

I do, just not all the alts!

They are a curse.

After wandering around on friday and saturday and trying to engage... seems like I only meet few new people and some veterans too.. so I'd say.. 2000.

I think if you find 1/2 new people a week who look like they will stick around then that is rather good!

Seeing as how I keep running into the same one hundred people or so that sounds rather high.

As far as the chart nope I don’t recognize it.

spikecity.png
Here is the only chart that matters to me. So many successes and failures all in one chart. Many good times ahead regardless if it’s a bear, bull, or voodoo market.

100 :D

What is your chart, i like the colours you opted for!

My google analytics. I want that traffic!!! nomnomnomnom

I believe it is in the 2,000 area @abh12345
Now that steem is in the crappy price most just don't even post anymore.

This seems to be the case. Or is it that people are using less alts now the price is down? :D

oh wow, those two chart comparisons look depressing. It proves the price is the only thing that holds people here. Broken!

There is a serious problem on this platform with chronic flaggers who flag posts out of spite or simply because they disagree with the subject. I was getting flagged because of the people who were upvoting my posts. How unfair is that? Punish a content creator just because you get an upvote from someone the chronic flagger is at war with.
When all posts get taken down, all earnings snagged away and your reputation starts going down, can you blame people for leaving?

Agreed. A couple of weeks ago, I saw someone's intro post get flagged by 5 or 6 people. Still don't know why. It seemed to be random. If that would have happened to me, I would have left again instantly.

I was getting flagged because of the people who were upvoting my posts.

So sad, isn't it?! Except for maybe a few people, everyone here lives in fear. If you get upvoted by the 'wrong' people, you get flagged. If you comment on the 'wrong' post, you get flagged. Even if you just mind your own business, you get flagged. And nobody speaks up about it, because that is just plain account-suicide.

Just a random title I came across on Cointelligence:

Is blockchain the only barrier protecting our freedom of speech from censorship?

Freedom of speech and uncensorship... haha, what a joke. ☹

Yea it is kinda silly. But it is part of the system. Anybody can downvote(flag) or upvote for any or no reason. Pending rewards are just that - pending. Until payout day they shouldn't be considered as rewards of any value.

I understand though how they can be and are used inappropriately. I don't think anything can change that. However, I don't see this as a major issue or a reason for people leaving. Usually, when flags are ignored for a while, they go away.

I guess if it's not worth peoples time...

The pool is so diluted due to apps/bots, it's quite slim pickings and maybe 2000 is about the limit?

I think the focus on user retention is more important than marketing/onboarding. People keep saying we need more people, more onboarding, but when people are here then what? Send them to bid-bots to buy votes or sell votes. :) lol

Bid-bots are welcoming though. As soon as one power-up they send their welcome memos with advertising their services.

I was to guess, I would say 3496. :)

I think the number of active, individual users is lower than we would like to know.
On the positive side: we can be sure the people who are here are not in it for the money.

On the negative side: these last couple of weeks, it has become painfully clear to me that the chances that the userbase will be growing a lot are very, very small.

  • 'Thanks' to the RC system, we can forget about onboarding non-crypto people.

  • Because of the small userbase, this place is not interesting for businesses or initiatives. (Which is emphasized by the sad attempt to attract advertizers and the banner at the top of ever page that they can't rent out)

Imo, the only people we'll be attracting will be people like me: I found this blockchain looking for low cost, promising cryptocurrencies to expand my portfolio with.

We need to get rid of a lot of bots (checked an introduction post recently? I got a reply last week that said:"So there are real people here after all?"), all the Spam (Read, DW, SM, empty Actifit posts, etc.), the random and not-so-random flaggers and the RC system. And we need developers to team up with marketers to polish our reputation and get the word out about all the great thiings that are happening here.

If not, i think the number of active users will go down even more...

Btw, I meant to ask you if you perhaps know about a tool that shows the % of users that leaves again within the first month? For now, the only way to get those numbers I can think about is asking you or maybe @arcange to pull them from the database, but I don't think getting that number is important enough to ask people to spend their precious time , only to satisfy my curiousity.
But I don't even know half of the available tools here, I'm guessing there will be some site that can provide me with that info. And if there is, there's a big chance you know about it 😉

Hey!

I'll answer the last part first and say you need to be checking @paulag's monthly churn report 😉

Yes, we are now part of the slightly crazed core, testing stuff out for Steemit inc. and the apps.

I re-read this post last week: https://steemit.com/smt/@donkeypong/the-day-the-paywalls-died-how-steem-s-smart-media-token-saved-my-family-s-newspaper

Gonna continue waiting patiently.

Thanks, Asher.
I knew you'd know where to go :0)

And about that article... I hadn't seen it before. If only... lol

2800 individual people, many accounts. Sigh.

;0)

I will attest with my eyes closed that '2000' is the right figure!! ¡Yeah! I had a vision the other day. };)
