Imagine having a VERY large celestial toothpick, and sticking it through the North Pole of the earth, through the middle, and having it pop out the South Pole. That imaginary toothpick would be what is called the "axis" of the Earth. All heavenly bodies spin, like a top/dreidel, some faster and some slower, around their unique axis.
The axis of the Earth is tilted, as compared to the axis of the sun, by 23°26′13.0″ (or 23.43696°), according to Wikipedia. As the Earth circles the sun, that axial tilt causes the sun's energy (heat and light) to be felt more strongly first in one hemisphere, and then the other. That turning point is called a "solstice."
~animation source~, but was edited by me to include the pause, the words, and the arrow
The word solstice is derived from the Latin sol ("sun") and sistere ("to stand still"), because at the solstices, the Sun's declination "stands still" — that is, the seasonal movement of the Sun's daily path (as seen from Earth) stops at a northern or southern limit before reversing direction.
source
The solstice in December is referred to as the "Winter Solstice" in the Northern Hemisphere, and that is when the days are shortest and the nights are longest. This event will take place on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 11:28 am EST, or at 16:28 UTC [source]. After that, those of us above the equator will begin to see a slow shift towards more daylight and less darkness until the Summer Solstice arrives in June.
During this darkest time of year, many people decorate their houses with pretty lights. I love the darkness — it is peaceful & mysterious, comforting & enfolding like a womb, giving seeds and ideas the possibility of germinating. However, I love pretty lights, too!
Many people associate the lights with religious traditions rather than the millennia-old intent of merely "brightening the dark time of the year with a little cheer." That is fine, as long as others' beliefs are respected. My husband and I did not observe any holiday in our household this time of year, other than my quiet acknowledgment of the arrival of the Winter Solstice. We preferred a year-round celebration of the Light of the human soul, illuminating the darkness of our being.
In our happy home, there were no trees, no stockings, no gifts, nor were there any dreidels spinning, no menorah being lit. During my husband's last years on earth, he favored logic and reason over religion, while I essentially embraced the ancient Sanatana Dharma. Both my husband and I were born into homes that strictly followed religious observances, but both of us came to believe that following one's heart is more important than following the herd. There is awesome power and beauty in standing alone as a wild creature on a mountain precipice and looking down upon the gleaming valley below. He and I were both 'Black Sheep' who had found each other, so it fit.
All year long, I try to hold as much love in my heart as I can for myself and for other sentient beings. I believed in recycling things long before it was considered fashionable. I respect Mother Earth, and believe in treating everything with respect and acting with personal accountability. I believe in the beauty and power of the human soul, and I believe in a connectedness to All Things that exists as the Universal Consciousness, that thing I call "Goddess." I do not believe there is an actual "Being" that needs to lift us, pitifully, out of our wallow in misery. We need to lift ourselves. We can do it, We have the Power. My husband's beliefs were different than mine, but were similar and harmonized beautifully with mine. I miss him, terribly so.
Anyway...
I love and respect all of you, and I thank you for reading this.
For those who see the light, I wish you cheer.
For those who feel the darkness, I wish you cheer.
For those who are lifting themselves, I wish you cheer.
For those who are waiting to be lifted, I wish you cheer.
Whatever your beliefs, whatever your path,
know that I wish you cheer... and peace.

So those Santa's were for what purpose that you showed in the other post?
I'm a confused old man now, but please disregard my suggestion about drawing some now that I have read this, no harm intended.

Ha! I can see, in hindsight, why the confusion! And no harm taken! 😉
The first Santa in the previous post was just a window display in a store. Only the second one was my husband's. I think he'd had that one for many years, perhaps back when he was following Judaism, or maybe even before. He couldn't really remember when he got it, or where.
Also, the concept of "Santa" can transcend religious beliefs, and symbolize the generous nature of the human spirit. I've actually known several non-religious people who appreciate a good Santa once in a while.
Thank you for your comments; they are always appreciated! 😊

Good, just wanted to make sure I didn't make you angry suggesting the art piece. Hey, have you checked out #steemusa yet? You and your other American friend girls like Lima need to get in over there and start posting through there, it just started this month.

No, the art suggestion was a good idea, really! 😊
I have not checked out #steemusa yet. In fact, I haven't heard a word about it, other than seeing an occasional badge at the bottom of some posts (like yours), but didn't probe any futher. I will certainly check it out, but don't want to spread myself too thin, if there are obligations tied to it. Thanks for the heads-up about it!

Thank You For Sharing kitty 🐱!
Any information on the structure of the planet is always tweezed in my mind, because I have read and heard testimonies of people attempting to go to the South Pole and running into a gigantic wall of ice that circles the entire part of the earth, linking to the “North Pole”. I wouldn’t call myself a flat earther or a round earther, I do feel there is much more to be dissected + pieced together on the subject though.

Wonderful! I love the way that you explain all of this. I really do think it is so easy for people to be disconnected from nature and the world itself and not even realize it. I love this mentality and I really think we all need to be a little more aware of how we are connecting to Mother Earth, or not in some cases. Thanks for this amazing reminder.

Hey as you had started here you describe about the rotation of the planet and the fixed Axis through which all the Terrestrial bodies are rotating point letter in this post you had mention about your life and your belief system and your childhood, not only that you have to also talk about religion.
And I also do believe that god is not someone but energy for everyone.
And same as you I also support bloggers and try to understand what is important for blogging.

Excellent writing kitty. Your writing enlighted me to know more about love and care in all aspect of life. Life isn't just about the goal that you are chasing after but also to slow down your pace, appreciate the people around us more. Spending the time together even if it is just a few hours. It all comes from the heart. I especially love how you incorporated your true feeling to express yourself in this unique manner. I really feel it. May God bless you..

This post speaks to my heart. I love the action of holding space for others with the intent of growing world kindness. We celebrate Christmas with my partner's family (and because it's fun for us), but Winter Solstice is what we talk about when it comes to "religion" since we have no defined path we choose to follow.
