In the Book of Leviticus, the Law of Holiness ends with a series of warnings for the Israelites who live according to the law of Moses and for those who transgress it. God is merciful and slow to punish but these warnings that are blessings and curses, depending on the behavior of the man, are intended to make man responsible for his own actions. The man as a creature of God, like Adam and Eve, like Cain and Abel, is essentially a being capable of free choice, as explained by the masters of wisdom: "God in the beginning created human beings and made them subject to their own free choice" Ben Sira 15:14.
The blessings in the law of Holiness are a call to the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion), and the fidelity to the law of the Lord, God protects those who love him: "I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you" Leviticus 26:9.
But instead, the curses are a call to correction, to a spiritual change towards the Lord, because among the curses is war and the lack of peace, God does not favor fools:
"If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction but continue to be hostile towards me, I myself will be hostile towards you and will afflict you for your sins seven times over. And I will bring the sword on you to avenge the breaking of the covenant" Leviticus 26:23-25.
But these curses acquire a special character in the Bible, because the book describes them as if they were prophecies. And as history showed, these curses or warnings about the sinful life had its conclusion in the history of the people of Israel with the fall of the Kingdom of Israel and its capital Samaria at the hands of the Assyrians, and the destruction of the Kingdom of Judah at the hands of the Babylonians, sixty years later.
With this, the Bible seeks to teach that God always puts man in front of two paths, and the choice is in man.
