The book of wisdom attributed to King Solomon begins by explaining to us that men have to choose between two paths, but only one can coexists with wisdom. Wisdom is perfect, eternal and uncreated:
"Because he is found by those who do not put him to the test,
and manifest himself to those who do not distrust him.
For perverse thoughts separate people from God,
and when his power is tested, it exposes the foolish;
because wisdom will not enter a deceitful soul,
or dwell in a body enslaved to sin.
For a holy and disciplined spirit will flee from deceit,
and will leave foolish thoughts behind,
and will be ashamed at the approach of unrighteousness.", Wisdom 1:2-5.
Wisdom can only dwell in perfect souls, that is, in those souls that are similar to God. Wisdom is a friend of men, explains Salomon, but to receive it, men must follow the progressive path of righteousness: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", Matthew 7:12. Wisdom does not agree with error, that is, science rejects foolish thoughts and falsehood.
The bible explains that we receive wisdom when we want it more than anything. God offers King Solomon only one desire, because what is most desired is what is asked first, when the desire for good prevails, it is when the soul is perfected towards God:
“At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, ´Ask for whatever you want me to give you.´
Solomon answered, ´You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day.
Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. So give your servant a heart that knows how to listen, to judge your people, and to discern between good and evil.´
The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, ´Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked.I will give you a wise and understanding heart.´”, 1 Kings 3:5-12; 2 Chronicles 1:7-12.
