It's called the Day of Atonement, but more accurately, it's called "Day of the Coverings". We know that Messiah offered a single Atonement, but the coverings (Kipperim) are over many.

“And she shall bring forth a Son, and she shall call his name Yeshua, for he shall save his people from their sins.” Hebrew Matthew 1:21

Wait, Israel, for Yehovah is kind, an abundant ransom is with Him and He Himself shall ransom Israel from all their depravities. Psalm 130:7-8

His People, Whom Yeshua Saves, is Israel

If we of the nations are in Messiah, we are grafted into the household of God, the commonwealth of Israel, becoming fellow-citizens with the righteous. The covering offered by Yeshua is for all Israel.

And if some of the branches be broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them partake of the root and fatness of the olive tree. Romans 11:17

That at that time ye were without Messiah, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world, but now in Messiah Yeshua ye who sometimes were far off are made close by the blood of Messiah. Ephesians 2:12-13

Now therefore, you are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the righteous, and of the household of God. Ephesians 2:19

And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob Romans 11:26

A Single Sacrifice, Atonement (covering) for Many

The standard for righteous is spelled out in God's word. We all fall short of the righteousness of God in our flesh, but by the Spirit indwelling, demonstrating the power of God through our acts, we have the potential to live a life in the image of Messiah, just as He lives His life in the Image of His Father in Heaven.

Do we do this? The Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

The Holy Day of Atonement is when we acknowledge our shortcomings and beg God for mercy. Yeshua bled and died for our depravities and sins, the Most High Himself ransomed Israel that we may be nourished by the roots and be covered by the leaves of the tree of life (which brings HEALING to the nations).

Tonight begins the covering (Kippur) for those in the Faith of Messiah, who are called by the Name of Messiah and who worship God in Spirit and in truth.

Have we ever spited the Spirit of Grace?

We fall short, we do not always live as expected, we need this covering, lest we trample on the blood of the covenant, spiting the spirit of Grace.

For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins... of how much worse punishment, suppose you, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant, by which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done spite unto the Spirit of grace? Hebrews 10:26,29

We must forgive others, so we may be forgiven. We must repent of our sins and afflict our souls as we enter into this Holy Time of Covering. May the Atonement of Yeshua be recognized in Heaven and on earth as a fearful and glorious day, when the breach between God and man is healed.
