Seed is a propagating unit which is obviously designed by nature for survival and procreation of species. It is quite pertinent and necessary for a cultivator to be aware of the viability of a seed before embarking on the cultivation journey. If ignorantly, the cultivator goes ahead to plant without determining its viability and the seedlings or the yield of such crop turns out to be unmarketable/unattractive hereby discouraging the cultivator, it tends to unleash a major disaster to humans as a whole in respect to the option less wants of the populace hereby affecting the well-being of the consumers of such.
Food security can only be sustained if quality seeds are at the disposal of cultivators. Exposing the populace to see the need of patronizing quality seed producers with a practical view of its result should be displayed hereby serves as a driving tool towards encouraging them to emulate such, this action further spurs a drive towards sustaining food security.
Seed quality is a multiple concept with various components which is the totality of many seed features that makes the seed suitable for planting purposes. Most crop failure arises from sowing seeds of poor germination which actually could be avoided if the technique of seed testing is readily available to farmers who definitely will in turn take a step further by sowing their seed to assess their germination capacity before cultivating. This action when executed saves time and allows for expected expectations of tested seeds which are tagged certified upon evaluation hereby reducing risks of cultivating low yield seedlings and diseased ones in turn, food multiplication and assurance guaranteed thereby sustaining food security.
Technological advancements is a key zone where the future of agriculture lies. It is extremely primitive and absolutely archaic to shy away from modern machineries and equipments as they help in saving human stress and reduce labor with the shortest possible time.Students who are agriculturists should be exposed to seed testing equipments as further research can also be done on key areas challenging the sector. The importance of improved seed to the sustainability of food security cannot be downplayed hence I hereby encourage all enthusiast of this sector and all concerned readers to disemminate the information on the subject with great zeal.
