Sorting the kids’ laundry.
When it came to my kids’ laundry, I would just dump all their dirty clothes together in order to make a full load. As their clothes starting going up in size, their laundry load was becoming larger.
We reached the point where the largest load setting wasn’t large enough, so it was time to divide the load into two. To make things easy, I washed their clothes by gender.
Hmm.. clothes aren’t getting clean.
This may not surprise you, but I noticed the kids’ shirts weren’t coming out clean. I thought maybe it was my soap or lack of using a pretreatment.
Then I came across the idea of dividing their clothes by weight. This was a method I was already using on my clothes and my husband’s clothes. So why wasn’t I using it for the kids’ clothes?
I do a load for lightweight clothes and heavyweights. My light load consists of things like shirts, knits, undergarments, socks, anything lightweight in fabric and something you’d consider to be delicate.
The heavy load is mainly made up of pants, but I also include sweats and anything else that’s heavy in material.
I find that this method works well. It’s easier on my clothes, and they come out cleaner. The only exception I make to this method is if I have a new piece of clothing that I know will bleed its color. Otherwise, I don’t bother sorting out by color. I don’t even do a separate load for whites. (We hardly have any white clothes, so it would take too long to get enough to do a load.)
How do you do your laundry? Do you use this method?
Interesting... I never thought of ssperating by weight. I guess we seperate the towels and things like that. Thanks for the cleaner clothes idea!
It's actually my turn to do the laundry today (I was supposed to do it yesterday!)

howdy there hebrewhousewife! I don't worry about it, the laundry but then we don't have much in the way of if with just two of us. I've never thought about doing it by weight though so that sounds like a very efficient method!

And if you like to wear the same outfit for more than one day like my husband, then you really wouldn’t have much for laundry. Except then it’s dirtier and harder to clean.
