Home (condo) Gym Workout Tour

in homegym •  7 years ago  (edited)

Through the years I've had an on again, off again relationship with commercial gyms. I think, overall, that having other people around who are working out as well, does motivate me to do the same. So I would have to say for that reason alone, it is my preference to go to a commercial gym over a home gym or even no gym setup. The fact is, you don't NEED a gym to get a good workout in. Sometimes it offers less distractions and many added benefits, such as time convenience and the fact that you can blast any type of music you want to listen to!

I will try working out at the small gym (I would call it a fitness room) at my condo. It doesn't have nearly the amount of equipment that I would like and am used to at Gold's gym or any commercial gym, but again.. convenience and it is a lot cheaper, too.

I'll start by giving you a tour of the gym..

it's really just one biggish room, about 30 ft X 15ft with men's and woman's bathrooms (with showers). It's enough floor room to make it feel spacious enough.. you're not working out in a broom closet and there's lots of room for any floor work you might want to do.. bring a yoga mat and you could have a good workout just doing body weight stuff. Youtube has tons of vids showing lots of body weight exercises and routines or you can find many sources on other websites and even in printed form.

There is a nice set of dumbbells and two adjustable benches. (really all you would need for a descent workout)

There are two combo machines to use for back, chest, and shoulders. I also do my tricep push downs using the cable bar as well. Machines offer a nice, safe, more controlled exercise.. maybe after a good warm up using dumbells or other free weight stuff.

Lastly, there are several treadmills, elliptical machines, and bikes there. My favorite is the recumbent stationary bike.. it offers a nice, wide seat and an easy pedaling position so you don't have to worry about balance..

That's it. Having the bathrooms there are nice, but I hardly use that and don't plan on using the showers. I am glad that, all in all, this small gym has everything I need to get a good workout in. Later on, when I make my own gym, I will surely add some more things.

Ben

ps. I will make a day by day (5 day routine, I workout Mon-Fri) series of posts so anyone who wants can follow just how I workout.. something that would've helped me out greatly when I first started and would've save me years of trial and error.
