Building Our Dream - homestay / photography workshops / gallery / studio / cooking classes in Northern Thailand - Day 15

in homestay •  7 years ago  (edited)

We transported about 30 fruit trees to our property today. Pansa started growing a few lime trees about 2 years ago in pots on the vacant land next door to her mum's place. Soon there were more than 30 trees in pots and large plastic baskets. Now they are all ready to be planted in the ground. I think we'll have too many so we'll be giving some away to our new neighbours.

Suan Sook Homestay

We are building a home and guest accommodation to provide lifestyle photography workshops.

Our home and the first guest room are being built as one main structure, future guest rooms will be separate. The main house will include guest room, our bedroom, bathrooms, studio/gallery, store room, indoor and outdoor Thai style kitchen, outdoor dining /bbq area.

We are planting 20+ fruit trees and leaving some of the existing 15 year old longan trees in place. We will have vegetable garden and other plants and flowers throughout the property. We will landscape it from a photographers perspective as our aim is to make it as photogenic as possible. It will be as organic as possible. In future as we are able to we will drill for water to avoid problems in the dry season. We will also approach our neighbour and offer to provide water for his rice fields in the dry season so we can maintain a beautiful outlook across his fields. We also have a pond at the back of the property which we'll beautify.

Our plans are to eventually build three more guest rooms. These will all be stand alone and with relative privacy and stunning views. Our guests will be people who come for photography workshops and people only wanting accommodation. We are 7 minutes drive from the road that leads up the mountain and there's very little other good quality accommodation in the area. Doin Inthanon is mostly a national park so has little available accommodation. During the cool season the mountain is extremely popular with Thai tourists so we are confident we will be able to make good bookings.

We are also hoping in future to install a solar system to provide our electricity needs.
