Yesterday was another busy day for us as we went full steam ahead with the grow house prep and raided our local Bunnings for supplies.

For the grow house

  • Steel rods for the PVC pipes.
  • 10m x 1.2m (5cm aperture) galvanised Chicken Netting for the bottom of the house. 5cm aperture to allow bees and small birdsto still enter the house to pollinate and control pests.
  • 4m x 10m bird netting for the house dome.
  • Wire mesh fence anchors.
  • 2x Birdies 6 in 1 raised garden beds

For the lasagna base

  • 1.2m x 10m corrugated cardboard roll.
  • Butcher's paper.

Bargain plants

  • Another strawberry type because there's no such thing as too many strawberries.
  • Creeping thyme which will eventually be the "grass" in the grow house.
  • Lavender for pollinators and natural pest control.
  • Oregano because the one I replanted still looks dead.

Green House

We divided an conquered yesterday so while Hubby was measuring out the grow house space went to work on converting part of the deck into a "green house" for my succulents and assorted plants. We also tidied up the deck which was long long over due.

Here's some before pics from yesterday and after pics taken this morning.

The succulents that covered these tables and the lounge area are gone and settled in their new space.

The new plants are also in the green house space.

This space has become absolutely necessary for me as the birds and possums attack everything and having them covered up meant I couldn't really look after them properly and I sure as hell wasn't enjoying them anymore ~ so something had to be done.

By the time this space is finished it will be completely enclosed so I wont have to worry about the birds or possums.

The original idea was to use bird netting but when I stapled the netting on I realised I wanted/needed more privacy from our neighbours and that the lace curtains from Mum just might do the job. I reckon it worked heaps better than the netting.

Unfortunately I didnt have enough to cover the whole area so this is what it looks like at the moment

By the time I finished putting the curtains up Hubby was ready for the lasagna to go down.

First layer was the butcher's paper which we didn't have enough of thus the bits of cardboard. We soaked that with water so the wind didn't take it and to let it stick to the ground.

Then it was time to lay down the cardboard roll.

This is how it looked this morning.

As you can see we ran out of cardboard roll. Lucky for me Hubby ducked out early this morning (while I slept in) and got more garden supplies.

Today is day 2 of the build and I'm hoping by the end of the day construction will be finished. Keep an eye out for that post tomorrow!

Happy Easter everyone!
