Cookies in a Jar Recipe...CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEA....Old Fashion Sugar Cookies

in homesteadersonline •  7 years ago  (edited)

As a mom with 2 kids in University, I make my kids recipes in a jar to take back with them to school. Today I made the "Old Fashion Sugar Cookie Recipe". I usually give them a $15 gift card for the closest grocery store to them so they can get the eggs or milk or whatever they need to compliment the recipe. Follow me to read about how to make this handmade heart felt gift for just about anyone.

3 cups Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Baking soda
1/8th tsp of Salt
1 1/2 cups Sugar

Then grab a tag and write the rest of the instructions on the tag as I did.

Empty the contents of the jar into a large bowl. Cut in 1 cup of softened butter until the mixture is crumbly. In a separate bowl, beat 2 eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1/2 teaspoon of lemon extract until light and fluffy. Pour into the dry ingredients and mix until well blended. Cover bowl and chill for 1 hour.

Then go crazy dress up the Jar. This one is for my son and he likes and plays the fiddle so I found a Christmas ornament of a fiddle.
Don't forget to attach the tag with the instructions.

These are fun and easy and take no time to make. Give it a go. We are mostly homesteaders so there is usually no shortage of Mason Jars laying around. Next I will post a Soup recipe in a jar.

Happy Christmas Trails

what a cool idea @gardengirlcanada. upvoted, resteemed and now following... :)

Thank you @randykrafft welcome to the community of the nicest people you will ever meet in the world. I am now following you as well.

This is a great idea. I have done soup in a jar and brownies in a jar. Folks appreciate the home made gestures more than something that you can pick up in a store.

Agreed

Homemade is always better in my opinion.
I know that's how we are in my family too. Try and out-do each other with something homemade.

I

I ABSOLUTELY love homemade gifts and care packages! This is right up my alley!

I haven't made one of these cookies in a jar in many years. I may have to break into my stash of mason jars and add these to my list to make soon.

Usually I do chocolate chip, but these sugar ones may be a nice addition to the norm.

I made my daughter the m & m's cookie in a jar, with Christmas colored M & M's she will love it. I added a gift card for the local grocery and I added a $4 (on sale of course) baking pan.

AWESOME! The perfect gift from home when you're away from home!

my family makes what we call russian tea in a jar. it is so yum! we used to give it out as gifts when i was a kid...

That is a brilliant idea! I love it and so do the kids lol.
Following

Thank you Yes the kids love it. Especially my kids in University

I have a couple spots left open I think so far.

Messaged @aunt-deb hours ago, she will get back to me sometime LOL

YAY ME...I am rather impressed that I was able to edit and fix this post. I am a learning machine with technology tonight. Just thinking about selling my LTC I think it has gone as high as it will for awhile. I am a bit nervous about the rate of growth of the cryptos and think they may tank at the end of the week as they traditionally do. What are your thoughts crypto guru

Thank you again my friend. You know you are not too far from me. I should send you a Mason Jar of a good soup jar recipe where you can take on one of your hikes and all you have to do it add, hot water and let it stew. Hope your feeling better

I will take anything you send me gladly

(:

I am not too active still, with all the injuries and other stuff going on but no food goes to waste around here.

Or it goes into my long term stores over there ----->>>

Gladly willing to help an injured friend and fellow homesteader/ bushcrafter/ prepper/gardener and anything else that you would like to be labelled as. Are you apart of the homesteadersonline community on Discord? You could send me your private info, and I can get it in the mail. Can't have a bachelor go hungry now while he is mending. LOL

Very cute!

Thank you. It was fun, and getting people thinking outside of the box or I mean store for Christmas gift Idea's this year.

We have a glut of mason jars and I have been trying to come up with a gift the kids can make to give out for Christmas which uses them. This is perfect, and probably really inexpensive as well. Thanks! Now I just need to multiply out for a dozen jars.

Great idea! Just get your kids to help you fill the jars up and decorate. I use a paper plate as a funnel. That works great.

Your kids are so lucky! This is fantastic. 😀Thank you for sharing.

Oh, this is beautiful!

Thank you stay tuned for my soup jar recipe where all you have to do is add water and let stew.
