Okay so a local-ish store had instant oatmeal packets on sale. I never buy them but through I will give it a try. My childhood favorite was peaches-n-cream.
Well my kids would make the oat meal and then leave the bags out, instead of taking care of them. 👎
Well my husband was suppose to make granola, we had shredded coconut, and a small box of chopped dry fruit. But he kept putting it off.
So I decided to use it instead.
We buy oatmeal in bulk and store it in a 5 gallon food grade bucket.
We had just bought some more old fashioned oat. So I said the hell with it, we are not using it and dumped the fruit and coconut in and stired.
So what’s in it:
- About three pounds of oats
- One bag of shredded coconut (the kind in the baking aisle)
- One small-medium container of dried fruit chunks (found in hippie section of store, watch of apricots)
Add a little brown sugar and enjoy.
It doesn’t taste to bad and gives it texture too.
You could easily do this with cinnamon and raisins, that’s sounds great too! But this is what we had on hand.
We may just do this from now on, cheaper and less waste.
Homestead update:
Hope you all are well and warm. The temps for the past week plus have been in the forties, but yesterday and today it dropped. First to the 20’s and this morning to the teens.
We candled the eggs, we see blood veins. No I didn’t get any photos 😞
My plants are doing okay-ish. Yes I like “ish” today, lol.
Thinking of moving them to the full spectrum grow tent.
I pulled some of my planters from outside, and put them in my bathtub to thaw. That way I can plant PURPLE potatoes. Eeek! 🤩 Very excited about that! They look so pretty when you cut them up, even better when you mix them with Yukon Gold and Reds when cooking.
So my plan is to thaw the soil in the pots, and then fill my potato water jugs I posted about with said soil. Then plant the purple potatoes.
Was thinking of trying to plant the potatoes in April indoors so they can have a good start, but don’t know if the would do good. Then I would have to worry about my four cats digging in the buckets.
We shall see how this plays out.
I am still getting use to Steemit feed and checking stuff that way. Also my phone app and web browser on my phone doesn’t notify me of any tags.
I also try not to spend a ton of time on here. I dont want to forget to me present in my kids’ lifes, plus homeschooling them.
Hope you all are well!

I do like oatmeal, and with a bit of fruit in it, it adds more flavor. When we make oatmeal, we add maple syrup to the boiling water before the oats are dumped in the pot. That sweetens it up nicely.
I mostly put raisins in my oatmeal because that's what's easy and handy for me. I keep forgetting that I have dried apple slices...

The maple syrup before the oats makes sense, that way the flavor and sweetness is distributed through out the water. Nice👌
Raisins seem to be the easiest to get too, dried apples and cinnamon would be good!
