What is food sovereignty? To me, it is being able to provide all of our food for our family. We tried being vegetarian, but it just didn’t stick. However watching those factory birds ride to the butcher packed into little cages on trucks was breaking my heart. #homesteading is all about using what you can grow, and what grows nearby, to provide. On our farm, we have chickens. We got roosters when we had hoped for hens. It isn’t easy, but I feel so much better about feeding my family chicken when I know it was loved, cared for, and was able to run free. Yesterday, we butchered this rooster. Tomorrow he will feed my family. He ate bugs, ate grass, chased the cat, and flew around. He was daily fed sunflower seeds from my hand, and snuggled me right before. He wasn’t a pet, he had no name. But he was loved and we are so grateful that we are able to provide healthy, fresh, and farm raised meat for our home. #newmorningacres #share2steem #farmraised #thefactsoflife #knowyourfood
