Last night was a dark, cold, winter night.... not much going on. BORING! Also, I cancelled my Netflix membership a while ago because there was nothing new. In my boredom, I decided to check out Prime Video and see if they have anything worth watching.
GREAT IDEA! I ended up binging a bunch of episodes of this farm/cooking show. This guy, Ian Knauer, has a family farm and he shows how he cooks on the farm. He has a beekeeping show where he uses honey. He makes a very delicious looking kale salad with honey dressing (I will be making this!). And another episode he makes ricotta cheese for his pizza. Yum!
So as a chef, I think he has some really simple recipes, that look amazing. And honestly, simple is the best. No reason to complicate things with expensive and hard to find ingredients. I also really like the variety. He uses in season ingredients as well. So for his holiday episode he uses winter squashes and onions. For his summer episode, he uses tomatoes and greens. Cooking in season is so important if you don't have access to a greenhouse. Otherwise, you're buying imported products. Those are bad for the environment because they waste fossil fuels, and the produce just isn't good. They lack flavor because they are picked too ripe. Thats my take any who.....
As a farmer, I will say..... that isn't farm life! HA! I have a farm, and it is way more than simply skipping out to the barn with your metal bucket, getting a few squeezes of cream and making cheese. Also, wheres their rubbish pile??? Every farmer has one. Legit. It is where you put the stuff that you don't need, and know is probably trash, but you can't pitch it because it could be useful one day. Like a busted up pallet... or a barrel thats got a hole in the base. You know it could come in handy but just not right now. I love farm life, but just know, the chickens will eat all the grass, and they will poop on your favorite bench. That is fact!
So overall I would give the show 4 stars! It was easy to watch, I enjoyed the recipes he shared, and it was fun to laugh at how cheesy he could be about how amazing and clean and orderly a farm is (which it is not.... or at least mine isn't).

Great review! I know many show will only show the good parts and that doesn't tell whole story. What would you do to make that different?

I was hoping it would have more about the farm, showing a little more real life.

That's so funny! I'm sure he's a great chef, and I'm equally sure that he has a whole staff working around the clock to keep everything clean. My chickens have eaten all my grass too, and they like to hang out on the porch when it's raining and just stand around and poop. It's really embarrassing when anyone comes to visit.

Oh I know, I hate that. My husbands mom is always mortified when she sees poop on the porch... I'm just like, sorry they poop where they want
