Treasures from the past

in homesteading •  7 years ago

In his recent post @qberry told about a very interesting find which he dug on his farm.

In the comments to his post, I mentioned that I also have old things on/in my land.

In general, the region in which I live is very rich historically. In the current Kaliningrad region there were Romans, Vikings, Prussians, Germans, French, Russian and even Huns. Yes, yes, the Huns. In one of the regional studies books, I found a reference to the fact that a burial mound (grave) of the Huns is supposed to be near my village.

Unfortunately, there are no finds of such ancient times on my land, but there is a bunch of all kinds of treasures between the end of 19 and began of 20 centuries, as well as various attributes of the Second World War.

Here, for example, the boots of a German soldier and a milk jug

Here is a wheels for a cart, a plow and a metal can from begining of 20 century

And here is a blade, maybe a toy, which historical accessory I can't determine

And I'm not talking about a bunch of all kinds of horseshoes and nails. I hung one of the found horseshoes on the toilet door.

There are also more interesting finds. My friend on his land unearthed a cast iron toilet :) Unfortunately it was for a long time ago and photos have not remained.

There are also very dangerous gifts from the second world war- mortar shells and even unexploded bombs. Luckily there were no such finds on my site.

To sum it up, as @qberry said: "It's neat to have some history with the land" and I fully agree with him.
