Hard Work on the Homestead

in homesteading •  7 years ago  (edited)

Water retention is a major issue in the summer. I can't afford more water containers. So why not dig a pond?

Not having an excavator, I grabbed a shovel. For the next three days, I dug until I hit the water table, at that point it was at five foot.

I terraced the hill above the pond and then reinforced the retention wall below the pond.

In total, I was digging for about a week and 3 days on the pond. It was so worth it when we hit the higher temperatures and the water levels dropped, because I will still be able to water my garden and my animals.
