They say that keeping chickens is the "gateway drug" of homesteading, and I agree. Once you get started with chickens, there are so many paths that seem logical and natural to dig deeper in to the world of self reliance. I live in Panama and the whole country is 1 big farm. But I live in a semi desert area and have struggled with food crops so I'm going full out on chickens and want to produce 200 eggs per day to trade for other goods. Plus learn some pickling.
