A Little Fine Tuning - Horse Barn Progress ๐ŸดsteemCreated with Sketch.

Some mistakes are easily corrected. Others take heavy chains!

When I started this structure I was very careful to make sure each pole was vertical and each horizontal board was level. What I wasn't careful about was bracing it up securely so it stayed that way. The ends were solid because once I put the siding on it was nice and tight.

The Challenge

It is because that the ends of the structure were nice and solid but the middle of the building was not that I started to get this interesting bow or bend in the barn. Notice in the drawing below this photo that the top of the building started to lean back. This was only happening in the middle of the building because the ends were secure with the siding.

The Solution

Using the Come-a-long tool and some chains I was able to bring the center posts back to vertical. This was not easy. My first attempt to use the tractor was a complete fail since it is way too small and not heavy enough. My second attempt was to use my full-size truck. It too was not heavy enough. Nature provided the perfect leverage point in this Mesquite tree. I had just enough chain to reach from the tree to the top of the center post.

Once that was in place I was able to cover an entire interior wall with 3/4 inch plywood. I used way more than enough screws to ensure that the board were never moving. This wall provided the structure with stability from front to back.

Someday I'll learn to avoid these amateur mistakes! Oh well, the experience is always a pleasure.
