Even in the heat I wanted to get a little something done this morning. This process of making the board and batten look doesn't take long so I thought that would be a great way to get some work done before the day gets unbearable.
Faux Board and Batten
I really love the board and batten look on barns and cabins. We have this type of siding on the top part of our log cabin. For cost and material availability we decided to go with the normal type of T-111 siding. It is also referred to as Reverse Board and Batten. There are grooves in the board instead of a raised batten board.
Since I want the traditional raised batten board look I decided to put some "furring strips" in the grooves. The furring strip is an inexpensive board that is 3/4 by 1 1/2 inch.
My process for this faux board and batten look is to put a strip of construction adhesive in the groove before fitting the furring strip board.
The furring strips are cut to length then fixed in place over the adhesive with some deck screws.
The Finished Look (minus stain)
I think this adds dimension to the barn in ways that the typical siding cannot. I look forward to seeing this with the stain applied. Overall, so far I think the little extra expense is worth it. We'll see how well this extra treatment will hold up over time.

I see finishing the barn is going nicely. In dutch we say de laatste loodjes wegen het zwaarst. Which means something like the last bits and pieces are always the hardest. Keep it up 👍
