Can Steemit build fences??

in homesteading •  7 years ago

I've been creating video and text content for almost six months now, both here on Steemit and earlier on YouTube. I've accumulated a few Steem Dollars along the way thanks to the awesome community we have here. It got me to thinking though, could I do something practical on our farm with the SBD earned with my content? We do happen to have an upcoming project, some new fencing...

The first step to finding out if it was possible to use Steemit to finance our fencing project was to attempt to cash in our SBD for Australian dollars (AUD). I went through the process of converting my 97SBD to Bitcoin and then to AUD and was quite surprised with the end result. We ended up with around $560AUD at the end of the process, which is about 1/5 to 1/4 of the funds we need to build the fence. How unreal is that! I was more than a little impressed, I have to say.

Here is an overview of the fencing that we want to install for our rotational grazing.

I'd love to hear your ideas on what I could do to make it truly a Steemit Community fence. One of the ideas I had was to put users names on the steel posts if they wanted to donate a couple SBD to the cause, (there'll be at least 50 of those), and a larger tag on one of the big strainer posts if they pitched in more than 5SBD, (8 strainer posts). Would love to hear your thoughts before I kick off the fencing drive.

This community is the BEST!
Cheers,
Dave.

Good luck on your fencing endeavor. I enjoy Fencing. It always means spending quality time with my Husband @qwasert and my Dad and making memories.

Yep, I find most work on the farm to be enjoyable. It's good seeing the results of your labours. Thanks for reading.

Just call it a wall and let Trump pay for it.

This is an awesome idea!

Thank you. The things one thinks of on a rainy day on the farm 😊

Utilizing these platforms for these purposes is why these platforms are awesome. Great post upvoted and Resteemed 👍🏼👍🏼

Thank you. We do have a very helpful and encouraging community here.

Congratulations!

Brilliant idea! If we can get @karenb54 a new shower room, we can certainly rally together to build a fence.

I've absolutely zero experience in the type of system you've described, but on the surface it makes sense. I look forward to what the experienced folks have to say.

Me too. 😊 I'm mainly using what I've learnt from using portable electric fencing over the last year and transferring that into a simplistic semi permanent fence that will hopefully suit what we need it to do. Thanks for taking the time to read.

You're most welcome! This is a do-able project, so I posted a link in the Discord chat, Homesteaders Online and mentioned that you were looking for input. I know there are folks who have hands-on experience with this type stuff. If you haven't already, you may want to drop in there, too.

This is a good idea. I am going to keep tab on this and would write about this in future. Let us know how it goes :)

Will do. At the moment I would just like to hear some feedback on the idea, then I'll work out how I'm going to execute the plan and put that up as a separate post.

It’s a great idea putting steamians names on the posts. 🐓🐓

Thank you for reading and for your thoughts.

I think it would be quite interesting to have a community funded farm (with fences being the first part) where people can pitch in and get a share of what is produced on the farm. But until you get to that point, I think names on fences would be nice :)

Its an interesting concept isn't it. Who knows where it could end. Thanks for your thoughts.
