Australian Native Stingless Beekeeping - Part 3 - Splitting a boxed hive

in homesteading •  7 years ago

Part 3 in a series that shows how we keep and utilise our Native Stingless bees. This third video shows how we go about splitting one of our boxed native bee hives. Things don't always go as planned, as you'll see, but they are amazingly resilient creatures if you take a few steps to help them recover.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. One question, if they are stingless, why do you wear a veil?

I do mention it in the video, but they can bite like an ant and will attack sensitive areas like your eyelids, which is not much fun when trying to film a video.

Ah, makes sense. I know ant bites can be more painful than bee stings at times.. Thx
