Yesterday the weather was dry here in the Swiss mountains but the last few weeks the temperature has been slowly dropping and my herbs that were planted outside were slowly withering.
So I decided that it was time to move them inside and make the flower pots outside ready for the upcoming winter.
The first thing I did was moving and replanting a few pots to fit on the ladder in the kitchen
next step was really getting my hands dirty and ripping out everything on the balcony planters and putting some Erica in there to add a bit of color to a season that is losing its color very fast.
It was a whole lot of compostable stuff (and some plastic) but we recycled like champs and the plants went in the compost.
But not all the little plants went that way and I managed to take some out and replant them in a flower pot that now holds some mint, two different kinds of basil, chives and something called chyros herb and a small strawberry (which I doubt will make it but I had to try)
For me its really important to have some fresh herbs to use in my cooking because it really adds an extra touch that dried ones cannot really touch and this is really something that anyone can do at home. You do not need a giant balcony or a huge amount of space. Use a planter or a ladder system like I did and you will be one your way to some small urban homesteading.
Save some money and have fresh herbs at home, how much better can it get?
do you have something similar at home or are you a true homesteader with land enough to grow more then just herbs and make us urban homesteaders jealous?
It's time for celebration @felander !
