Geodesic Dome Game Changer - Buckminster Fuller Would Be Proud!steemCreated with Sketch.

I try to do near 100% my original work, but this is too amazing not to share. I know MANY people here are looking to build greenhouses, and I am sure many people here also understand the appeal of a geodesic dome structure. @longsilver and I did build one, our first structure on our land! (One day I WILL get around to making a post about that whole adventure in cheap structures, not today lol!)

Make no mistake, we love our little dome. It is still unfinished, but it has been a great little wellhouse / guest house in an emergency. We had no blueprint, @longsilver used a soccer ball! It wasan awesome experience, but let me save you some "tales of adventure" and show you how we are going to build the next one... like THIS guy!

That guy has clearly thought a lot about this problem, why did he patent it if he was going to tell everyone how to do it themselves?

I can't read his mind, but it appears he has got a few "tricks" he kept to himself. Having played with dome angles, I suspect there is some precision required to get those holes exactly right. You could probably make a dome that stands with approximations, but if you want the MOST sturdy dome you can get with these relatively cheap materials, you probably would benefit from precision on those holes. He also does not seem to be trying to get rich, the kits are VERY affordable, and he will sell you just the hubs.

I liked their chicken tractor dome idea and I had no idea stainless steel zip ties existed

I work with electricians on industrial construction sites. They use stainless steel zip ties at work to attach identification tags on electrical cables. They exist but they aren't cheap. If you want to get them nice and tight there is a tool to install them that tightens them and at the same time cuts the tails. Being stainless steel the tails don't cut easily. Without the tool they are tough to use and still have them look nice when you are done.

I've read horror stories about people trying to build geodesic dome homes. Personally I would stay away. I guess it could be a fun challenge though. It sounds like you've had success with one of the structures already too. Good luck to you. Thanks for posting.

it would be a fun project but I wouldn't want to live on one! Looks like an interesting idea as a greenhouse though.
