Cabin Foundation and Leveling September 2013

in homesteading •  7 years ago

This is how Addie and I built the foundation and leveled it for our cabin. We used a water level to set 25 pillars for our cabin to sit on. each pillar was dug out to sit on clay so the frost would have very little effect. Now four years later and on our fifth winter we have still not yet noticed any settling. I feel it has held up very well thus far.

In my early days here I didn't understand how to tag things to get them seen. So now that I somewhat have an idea and a following I figured I would repost a few from my beginning.

Just curious... because I have wanted to do something along these lines. Is the cabin permitted? Just wondering how inspectors are in Pennyslavania or da U.P. in compairison to the Lansing area.

my cabin does not require permits in any state due to the way it is built and on SKIDS.
cabins built on permanent foundations or trailers or those over the township road size limits all require permits.

if you build to fit under your local towns road size limit and build on skids and do not connect to anything that requires a certified technician to install or disconnect then you will be safe in most cases. there are a few other details to be done to ensure it but that is the basic starting point and is LEGAL in ALL lower 48 states. no inspections from anyone are required IF you build EXACTLY the way i did. no matter your state. i do have a video discussing exactly how to do it. and how the state will even help you.
