My Food Garden Harvest

in homesteading •  7 years ago

This year I didn't have a garden due to being gone all summer hiking the Appalachian trail. BUT last year 2016 I had a GREAT garden and I thought I would share it here with my steemian friends.

Our garden is 50 feet long and 8 feet wide roughly. We grow all kinds of food such as squash, cucumbers, melons, peppers, onions, tomatoes, corn, and so much more. We also have a container garden in front of our house that we use for growing daily foods in as well.

Here is a look at our garden:

How much corn did you get?

It never seems like you get much returns for the amount of square feet you have to till and water...

Also, no tomatoes? I canned enough this fall to last me 2 years easy...

my tomatoes are in the front garden not this one. we get way more then we can eat. our herb gardens and fruit is also in the front gardens. we canned plenty of food and even posted several blogs on it. we put very little work or effort into our gardens and get lots back. our gardens are self watering via solar powered system and water comes from rain catch and stream. we dont weed or maintain the garden at all. we only plant it in 3 days in spring and harvest once a week till fall. then spend 3 days prepping it for next year. you can see it all on fixedbydoc.com

You better get back out there and at it this coming year!

I love those squash, pumpkin and gords!!! So great! and that cute racoon!
Thx

thanks. it all depends on whether i spend the summer biking 4500 miles from san francisco to washington dc or not.

Nice plants and looks like a nice harvest. I miss gardening already. Winter seems so long and can't wait for the springtime again.

i know how you feel. it is great to plant something and see it grow into something that can support you and your family...

THATS how you grow a REAL garden!!! wow Good job to Addie and you!

thanks :)
