Sky Blue Friday... Kind of

in homesteading •  5 years ago

I took these pictures yesterday and was going to post them, and then I remembered it was Thursday. Oh well. I can't be on top of the calendar all the time. I was out checking on the goats and doing a little clipping when the weather went bad. The clouds were clearly showing off their skills.

Granted, there isn't much sky blue in any of these shots, but the great part is the contrast between what was fairly nice weather and what it became within minutes. I was out clipping and it started to rain, and all the goats wandered back to the barn, but they kept looking back at me as if to ask why the crazy lady was just standing out there in the rain. Once I gave them their hay, I went back outside to take more pictures.

The first three pictures are basically variations on a theme, but slightly different aspects. There was an oblong disc of cloud that was much higher in the atmosphere than the showy ones, and it was covering the sun like a negligee. If you're tired of them, I should tell you that I took many, many pictures and I'm only posting a few of them.

Trixie was running around while I was standing and pointing my phone at the sky, and she insisted that I include a picture of her even though it doesn't have any blue in it. She's just that cute.

Here's a panorama I took of the whole scene. Notice the light clouds on the left, the apocalypse threatening from the middle, and the blue on the right. It was pretty cool to see the SEAL team version of a storm while I was out in a big enough sky to capture it.

After I left Farmer Dan's, I had to stop in the middle of the road to take a couple more pictures. The only person inconvenienced by this is Trixie, who gets excited every time the car stops. She thinks she need to hop out every time I put on the emergency brake. There is no traffic on that road, except during mint harvest season, which is quite done by now.

To explain why I find these clouds so captivating, and why they have figured in more than one of my posts, you need to understand how boring the sky often is in my neck of the woods.

That was today's sky, the usual gray smear that renders everything below it gloomy and banal. When we get the showboat clouds, it's noteworthy.

This one is looking across the mint field towards the hills, and the tree farm trees in the middle ground with their leaves being turned silver by the wind.

I have been trying to write this post for several hours, and have been interrupted by many two- and four-legged creatures, so I feel like my flimsy narrative is disjointed and choppy. This is my life most of the time.

Castles in the sky. Who can resist a sky castle? We get those kind here quite frequently, and they never get old. How sweet of the goats to worry after you. That road looks so vibrant with those deep greens on the side.

Great pictures! My favorite is the one on the road - with the autumnal trees in the background.

I love them :)

Lovely and beautiful pictures, did it rain, was it a strom that the sky looked like that, its really interesting.

The clouds looked so low, one can almost reach up and grab them.

Your sky is cloudy 😝😝

Very nice cloud photos! And Trixie... lol It looks like there was quite a bit of turbulence in the atmosphere to put on a show like that!

We actually had a beautiful fall day in Minnesota, today. It'll probably snow tomorrow or something, just to punish us for it.
