A Day In The Life: Live & Learn

Newest Essential Oils

I found these over the weekend at a great price so I scooped them up. Not sure what I will be using them for YET... but I am sure I will find a good project.

Lemon Grass & Frankincense

EPIC HOMEMADE SOAP FAIL

I basically used this recipe with a few new tweaks.

lavender sage.jpg

My tweaks were as follows:
I used 30-ounces of coconut oil, 2-ounces of sweet almond oil and one-ounce of tea tree oil.
One tablespoon of crushed (dehydrated) sage
About 20 drops of lavender essential oil

All was going great until... yeah, there was an until...
...my immersible blender DIED!

So the initial mixing at the beginning to completely merge the oils and the lye mixture wasn't complete. I did attempt to use my hand mixer (now I have to replace this too due to the lye), but I am hesitant to believe the soap with cure properly.

I did try to cook it longer. I did the ph test and it came out ok. But it looks... it looks different.

See how the OIL seems to separate from the lye

I have decided to leave the soap in the molds for a few days and see what happens. Worst case scenario? I will put all the soap into a jar and use it as a liquid shower gel instead of bar soap.

I was SO excited to try this recipe with the sage and tea tree oil... sigh... maybe next batch.

I never really knew how soap was made before, so this was really insightful. Thank you.

lol- learn from my errors and failures!!!
I am sitting here laughing at my pathetic soap molds. Hubby is going to get a real kick outta this.
He always says... one day you're gonna mess it up.., shhheesh! He was right. Not sure which is worse... the soap fail or telling him... he.. was RIGHT!

I beat you could rebatch it. Looks like the saponification (chemical reaction between fats and lye) never happened.

I've always learned more from my failures than any of my successes.

Underrated comment.

Thank you very much.

Oh lovely! I'd be lost without my essential oils. I've had so many trials and errors. Keep it up, it's all part of the process :-)

Absolutely... never give up.
I'll see what happens, maybe I'll have a new creation from this.

Call it

"Chicken Fricassee Soap Special - by Goldy"

Oohhh... now that's priceless!!

At least your trying to make soap. That is more then we can say here. So far anyways hehe

It's really not too difficult. Having my immersive blender break was the problem.

Well formatted post Goldy. However, I highly recommend to use @Minnowbooster if you want to increase your payout.

And by the way, that soap looks like chicken fricassee...

You want to wash your body with that stuff? Lets just hope you won't smell like chicken afterwards lol :-)

Thanks!!! I have never used minnowsupport. Guess i need to.
Best advice?

Minnowbooster, not Minnowsupport.

Best advice: Use the boost button at the bottom right of your post after publishing and invest $1.40.

Like that your post will go to the hot section and you make a profit of around a dollar.

Too early in the morning here. I wrote that at 4:30AM. Now I am awake and realize my typo and error.
Going to check the minnowbooster. I think I have read about it and may have even used it before. Gotta double check

No problem.

Read this Goldy: Minnowbooster Introduction

Awesome! Thanks for the link- will check it out

Tragedy!
I hope it works out. And you get a new blender!
