My husband and I (and sometimes family) built everything here on the farm, except the barn. (And that’s been renovated 3 times.) The only thing contracted out was excavating and the foundations.
This addition we had hoped would have contractors doing the framing, siding, and roofing of the exterior. We’d finish the interior. But finding contractors to take on this “small” job has been problematic.
So my husband has been thinking he’d try to do as much as he could himself. But he was going to need some power tools as his shoulders, etc aren’t up to a lot of pounding.
Fourth of July sales abounded and New Hampshire with no sales tax being so close, we headed up there for a buying road trip on July 4th.
He was looking for a quiet compressor (70 decibels), a power nailer that could handle 2 sizes of nails, a miter saw and table, and some other smaller things.
He planned to start at Lowe’s because in addition to the other discounts, he had a veterans discount there. He got the compresser and nailer and small stuff there and that fit easily into the back of the Subaru.
Then we moved onto Harbor Freight where there was another sale. Turns out the miter saw he wanted had been sold out of stock, so he had to settle on a slightly more expensive one, on sale.
Once we’d hauled all this outside, we had to fit it all into the car.
But it’s a Subaru and we just fit it all in and all doors shut.
So he’s been messing around with his new toys for the last couple days.
Monday he calls the septic contractor to see when he plans to start. Sunday, I finished off the Big garden weeding and planned to start moving plants from the Old North garden on Monday. Then the Bulkhead garden, the Walkway, the East, and finally the V garden. I have a busy week ahead, and hopefully will be done by the time the contractor wants to start….

Love it! If you can, have him take pictures of the progress so you can post them and use the diy tag so others can find it! I’ve done quite a few under diy and there’s a great community of it here. You could also post any other diy things you do as well.
Love harbor freight, I get all my stuff from there. My dad snuffs at it since he’s a Home Depot guy and thinks they have better stuff. I tell him it’s the same just not name brands but he doesn’t listen lol

Thanks for the tip! I plan to post as we go along, so it's good to know about that tag.

If you are feeling fancy you can also take videos of it and use the tag diytube which is reserved only for diy videos. Look forward to seeing the posts!

I am pretty illiterate when it comes to that stuff. I even have trouble watching videos on steemit and seldom do.... It will have to be text and photos I'm afraid... :))
