Thursday was a very rainy day; it often came down in torrents and we had huge puddles in any depression, in the house or driveway and yard.
No work on the house; he took the day off and went to visit a fishing buddy and his dogs.
It was so warm on this Halloween Day, it was 70F at 5PM and still raining. The wildflowers on the drainfield must have loved it.
My helper friend was here today and our first job was to check and repair the netting my intern and I had taken down yesterday.
After cups of tea, he scrubbed up some of the plant trays that had been in the cold frame all summer. I worked on my yard map for an hour. We were waiting for the hot water heater in the barn to heat up, as I’d forgotten to turn it on.
Then we went up and scrubbed up all the equipment from the pasture pen. Friday, when my helper friend comes, if it is still raining, we’ll finish drying it and put it away. If it is not raining, we’ll tackle the pasture pen and moving the pasture coop to its winter place.
I am not looking forward to repairing the 4 sides of the chicken wire pen. It is 12 years old now and lots of places let go over the summer, especially near posts. There are also 2 broken end posts and they are the worst to fix.
