This Thanksgiving has to be the simplest one ever. We were just too tired to do more. Our own pork tenderloin seasoned with our own rosemary and garlic, fresh broccoli, millet bread stuffing, 3 cranberry sauces, and shrimp cocktail. Ice cream and pumpkin pudding for dessert. I was so tired I never even made the whipped cream for the pudding.

The day started off busy and noisy but by the time we sat down to eat and listen to Alice’s Restaurant, it was calm and peaceful and stayed that way the rest of the day.

We remembered to make the barn cats’ dinner but it was too late for the hens’. The barn cats love their dinners, probably because they are so rare.

Friday morning the hens got theirs. It had: alfalfa mash with popcorn, calendula petals, marjoram, and yarrow. There’s sweet potato peels on the side and that was the favorite bit.

One of the Barreds found a choice piece of sweet potato and took off running with it. That immediately started a game of Capture the Flag until there was none of the peel left.

The fun all over, most of them drifted inside to see if there was any food in the feeder yet. They also had not been given their daily fish ration yet, so they would pay more attention to the dinner.

So a mostly quiet day here, reflecting on what we’ve accomplished, and what we are grateful for.
