Fishing - the catch - 11 haddock, 7 pollock, 1 redfish crop December 2019.jpg

He had a good day out deepsea fishing on Wednesday. The waves weren’t bad, they saw whales and birds, he got to talk a lot with his fishing buddies on the way out and back, and he caught a decent amount of fish.

There’s 7 pollock, 11 haddock, and a single little redfish in there. He cleaned them up, packaged them in meal sizes, and we had haddock and redfish for supper. He also gave some haddock to my helper friend.

Because he didn’t get as much pollock as he hoped, he decided to thaw out the old haddock from last year and grind that up for the birds along with the few pollock.

I didn’t get much accomplished on Thursday, being wiped out from the late (for me) night making wreaths. My helper friend got several jobs done: both dehydrators cleaned out, the fish cooler washed up so it can resume being the milk cooler, finished cleaning up the seed starting stuff, and put away a lot of things for next year’s use.

Friday we all package ground fish, and I hope I can finish the budget for last month.

Gotta love a good feed of fish. I have a heap of silver whiting in deep freeze, caught near Whyalla, here in South Australia about 4.5 hours away from my home. My wife's uncle caught them, scaled, filleted and de-boned them...A little butter and oil in a pan, a quick sizzle, add some salt, pepper and a squeeze of lemon...Yum!

Looks like a good haul you got there.

That's how we feel about redfish aka ocean perch. Super yummy however you cook them!

Ocean perch is good! I got hooked on cod when in the UK last year. Up until that point I hadn't eaten it for some reason. So good. We eat a lot of fish to be honest; More fish than poultry or red meat for sure. (My wife is pescetarian so no meat at all).

We love cod, but where we are in New England, you can not keep ANY at all EVER. Sigh... Don't get me started on the dragnetters....

Oh yeah, that happens here too. Humans like taking more than they need.
