Arrowhead plant crop December 2019.jpg

On Thursday I got an early start finishing up the seed orders. But when I called the order into High Mowing to get the CSS discount, I’d forgotten something. I needed an order of at least $45 to qualify. This year I have reduced space for starting seedlings so the orders are tiny. I placed the order anyways, so that one is done.

My helper friend was here on Thursday and he was filling reels with the wire fencing we got on Monday. He got 2 of the collections finished before running out of wire, again.

The next job was cleaning the scale bugs off the worst house plants and then spraying them with a dish soap/oil mixture we are trying. It worked very well on the roundtop window plants and those plants are thriving now.

We tackled the arrowhead plant above as it was the worst. It lives in a northwest corner in the living room and had contaminated many of the plants there.

The next worst were 2 aloe vera, one hanging, one a table plant. We got them done, and an ivy that was under the hanging one. I hope we have as good luck with these as we had with the first batch.

The west window in that corner look out on the birdfeeders we hung a week ago. After all the storms, and with the approaching cold, the birds had finally found them. So had the squirrels.

There were a pair of cardinals, male and female out there at lunch time.

I have been trying to get a photo of juncos since they first arrived weeks ago. I finally got this one.

The squirrels aren’t on the feeders, yet, just looking under them for dropped seed. But I’m sure with this deep cold for the next few days, they will be trying soon.

Friday I finish up odds and ends, like trying to find seeds or plants for these:

● Costmary/Bible Plant
● Roman Wormwood Artemisia pontica
● Sweet Cecily
● Southernwood

These were planted in the original herb gardens in 1992 and between construction and attrition they have died.

My helper friend will be here again and we will tackle more plants.
