Trailer Hitch Repair

Last week I did something really dumb. I was backing up my truck and ran over the trailer hitch on my utility trailer, breaking the locking mechanism of the hitch, so I had to add another thing to my list of chores.

I chose to cut off the front of the hitch instead of cutting off the weld. It was easier and I do not have access to a welder. It also allowed me to install the new hitch on top of the remains of old hitch without needing shims on the insides of the new hitch to secure a tight fit.

Next I drilled holes in rail to match the holes in the hitch and added two grade 5 bolts and the trailer is back in working order.

This was a simple fix, but it is just another example of why someone that has a homestead needs to be able to do their own repairs.

Nice fix!
In this day and age, so many people just throw things away rather than fix them. Always refreshing to see someone actually FIX things. :D

Yep, good reminder as to why doing self repairs are so important.

Although around here things like that always happen when there is so much going on that it can take a long time to get around to fixing the problem...

Following...or trailing behind hehe

Great Job! That is an easy mistake to make. We are just now figuring out how important welding can be on the farm. The Hubs is still in his Welding Class and I am sure he Is thinking about these exact same fixes. It sure is empowering when you fix things like this yourself. Thanks for the steps to handle.
