That's right! Pumpkins and pigs are like two peas in a pod except one of the peas is going to eat the other one. LOL

Pigs absolutely love pumpkins! And I love feeding them to the them for multiple different reasons. First off the pumpkins were FREE! At the end of last fall we put all over social media that we are looking for people's pumpkins to feed to our pigs. Instead of letting them rot on there front porch or thrown in the dump they had another option to do something with their pumpkins. My wife and I would ride around once a week pick the pumpkins up and bring them back to the farm. We got hundreds of pumpkins this way!

Second reason we really like feeding pumpkins to our pigs is that pumpkin seeds are a natural FREE dewormer. With pigs always having their nose in the ground they are going to pick up some sort of parasite, most likely. So instead of having to buy a medicine or diatomaceous earth pumpkin seeds will do the trick to clean their gut out.

The third reason we like feeding pumpkins to our pigs is because without the pigs even knowing they're planting us a FREE pumpkin patch. We are rotating our pigs so whatever seeds they leave behind will turn into a pumpkin patch in the spring.

So if you're keeping track we got FREE feed, FREE natural medicine and a FREE pumpkin patch. Just for using a resource that was going to be thrown away. If that's not some Permaculture Ninja stuff I don't know what it is.

Nope, can't beat that at all. Win-win-win! It might be neat to see what they all look like and what sort of punkins ya end up with at the end of the season.

That is definitely a crafty permaculture move. I'll have to remember this if/when we get pigs, even if I only use a component of it.

I knew bout DE being a wormer but not Pumpkin Seeds! One of the big things stopping us getting pigs is the cost of feeding them so a self planting pumpkin patch sounds pretty good, except we don't do pumpkin carving much in Oz for Halloween so I might have to pay for the original pumpkin 😜

Ok....I never knew you could feed pigs with pumpkin........How about their production level and the rate of growth? Could it be considered rapid or at what rate?

please don't scream with titles!
It is a good content, we will find it anyway. Thank you, keep up!
