Phase 2: Tomatoes Started and Chilis are 6 weeks old 🌶️🌶️ - Garden Season 2018 - Update #5

What's up, Steemians.

Phase 2 is starting and I put my tomatoes into the soil last weekend. Tomatoes grow very quickly and I do not need so much time in advance to get big plants. In comparison, the chilis grow much slower. So it is the right time to start to be ready beginning of May. 😊

I go this season for 2 different types of tomatoes. One is the Russian, big, dark tomato Tschenomor. I had this one already last season and the results and taste were very good. I am happy to plan those again.

Additionally, I try a new type, which is the “De Barao Red”. As per description the tomatoes should have a great taste and produces up to 3 kg per plant. This sounds great. Let’s give it a try.

Update on the chili

I like the continuous growth of the chili plants. Look how big they are after 6 weeks. There is still enough space in the grow box. So I am not concerned to move them out in the next weeks.

View into the 2nd grow box:

Nice green leaves. The fertilizer seems to work:

To Do:

  • I keep the chili in the grow box for the next couple of weeks. If the weather gets better in April and more light is available. I will move them to the window sill in our living room.

I keep you posted on the progress.

How are your season preparations going forward?

They are looking fantastic! I experimented with growing plants the previous year and had a ton of fun with it. I grew some tomatoes, chillies, and various herbs.

Funny story though, I originally didn't even mean to grow tomatoes, I was buying seeds online for a variety of the top hottest chilies in the world and I guess I bought from some shady venders because none of the chilies actually grew into what they were supposed to be. For 3 different chili plants I ended up with 2 tomato plants and 1 small red chili plant (was supposed to be carolina reaper but ended up a common red chili in china).

Seeing your post makes me really want to grow again but I'm getting kicked out of my apartment that has a balcony next month and I'm moving in somewhere without one. I'll have to live it through your posts instead now.

LOL, yes, you have to trust your chili dealer. It is hard to find a good one.
The chilis also grow nicely inside if you have less space. But for sure I keep sharing the progress.
