Regrown the from the scraps of an onion!

in homesteading •  6 years ago

This onion was pulled out of the cupboard to cook with one night, and saw it had some shoots at the top, so we cut it so we could use the rest of it and i planted the top in an old bed and forgot about it - literally neglected it for about 4 months.

It grew a top and i thought it would throw me flowers and seeds, i really did not expect a whole onion to regrow!! i thought it was a dud so i went to pull it out as i was redoing my garden and needed the space and lo and behold - an onion!!! So i repotted it in a bucket and let it continue to grow.

Pulled it out as i was concerned it had been in the ground too long and would start to rot, but apparently it takes between 6-8 months for an onion to grow properly. I think this one was in the ground for about 6 months?
