We got some chicks 2 weeks back, so far we havent had any losses so thats been good.
However with our 4 hens we'll have to butcher them before the chicks get out of their pen.
Unfortunately a couple months ago our chickens started eating their eggs. The moment they see one they pick it apart. So far we've tried feeding them oyster shells. It worked for a week until they discovered they can knock the shells out of the container and ignore them.
We've tried feesing them their own egg shells. They were quite excited to pick at the shells until they discovered there was no yolk.
We've been very dilligent on checking for eggs but they eat them too quickly.
We put laying boxes in and they refuse to use them.
Sometimes we may get an egg or two but its not frequent.
So we'll be butchering our chickens this week and cleaning the pen to make way for the new ones so the older ones dont teach them bad habits.
