Eating Snapping Turtle for the First Time! Learning to Rely on What God has Provided.

in homesteading •  7 years ago

When we moved to our homestead in the Ozark's we decided that one of the things we would do is to eat as many of the native edible plants and animals as possible.

Trying a new vegetable or wild edible plant can be a little unsettling, but when it comes to meat that is where things can get a little scarier.  Eating meat that most people would consider off limits is just something you need to learn how to do if you are trying to be as self sufficient as possible.  We have tried a variety of things that most people wouldn't eat.  To date we have eaten raccoon, squirrel, possum, snapping turtle and a variety of fishes that most people either throw back or give to their barn cat.  We have actually like them all!

The video above is about is our first experience with snapping turtle.  It was by far the best out of all the crazy things we have tried so far.

Enjoy... and God Bless!

I've caught a lot of those in my day, and quite a few wound up getting eaten. Not all by me, but some old-timers I knew.

Some of my favorite animals right there!

We were really amazed how much we liked them and how much our kids like them. They will definitely be a regular for source for us from now on. Glad we're not the only crazy ones! haha - Kevin
