Homesteading for 2018: How to Cook Adobong Pugo (A Quail Meat Dish)

in homesteading •  7 years ago  (edited)

Mabuhay Steemians! It's been months since I posted about foods, homesteading etc. and now I am back!!! So I hope you like this one guys!

Just this morning I was told by my father to cook the meat in our fridge for our breakfast. By the way, here in the Philippines most of the food for the breakfast are consist with eggs, coffee (milk for the children or chocolate milk), hotdog, longganisa and pan-de-sal or Rice but my family is so unconventional one and when it comes to food we are "adventurous".

So opened the fridge and I was so surprised with what I saw.

No, these are not chicks. These are Quails!

So my father bought these Quails at our market. He bought it for 13 Pesos each (.26 USD per Quail). Yeah it's quite cheap, some even said that it's cheaper compared to Quails that are sold to neighboring cities (E.g. Ozamiz and Pagadian City).

We want to have a simple and easy-to-cook dish for these Quails, also, it's around 8:00 and our stomachs are knocking at us right the moment. So we decided to have Filipino's very own Adobo.

Adobo is a cuisine introduced by Spaniards and speaking of Spaniards. The Philippines was colonized by Spain for more that 300 Years, so long right? That's the sole reason why most of the Filipino cultures and foods are influenced by Spaniards.

Philippine Adobo (from Spanish adobar: "marinade," "sauce" or "seasoning") is a popular dish and cooking process in Philippine cuisine that involves meat, seafood, or vegetables marinated in vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and black peppercorns, which is browned in oil, and simmered in the marinade. It has sometimes been considered as the unofficial national dish in the Philippines.

Quail meats are so hard to find but luckily there are poultry farms right now in the Philippines that are raising Quials to produce some eggs because we Filipinos believe that Quail eggs are are more nutritious than Chicken Eggs, they said that whenever Quails aged they are not that productive compared to young one's.

We are not burdened anymore to find Quails in the wild.

It's new to me since never in my life I tasted a Quail meat and I think it's exotic food. And I'm a person who is willing to try a new food that is unfamiliar to my pallete (except for cat and dog meat). Yeah, i'm quite excited to try this one.

I searched about Quails and these are what I got.

Although quail has a small body, it is possible that it has many nutrient in its meat. Commonly, quail meat has many nutrients such as protein, phosphor, fat, calcium, iron, and zinc.
