Life Edited: Transgenic Food

What would you do for 40 billion dollars a year? What do these 4 multinational corporate GAINTS have in common?

BayerMonsanto
DowDuPont
ChemChinaSyngenta
Cargill

These 4 essentially own the entire agricultural seed and plant market.

Control the food and you control the world!

Why should you be concerned?
GMOs were traditionally engineered by adding bacterial based genes to seeds so they would poison insects or survive vigorous weed sprays.

Those first generation GMOs revolutionized insect pest control, but their effectiveness has been thwarted by resistance in pests. Pests become immune just like fleas did to ingredients in flea inhibitors.

There is now a new technique know as "genetic editing" in the form of CRISPR-Cas9.

Next generation crops will be created using advanced genetic manipulation techniques enabling high-precision editing of a plant's own genome.

CRISPR can be “multiplexed” to affect all copies of a gene or in other words it can target dozens of genes at once.

A simple way to understand gene editing is to look at it the this way. A simple word processing spell checker identifies then corrects any errors in a sentence. Gene editing changes the actual code within an organism's DNA.

Its not inherently evil, it could be used in medicine to eliminate inherited diseases, treat cancers and cure immune system disorders.

So here's the caveat!

The big 4 hope transgenic crops modified with CRISPR can be largely exempted from regulation by the USDA or any other agency. That hope is based upon the theory that a different species like a bacteria or virus will not be required to deliver the genetic modification.

The real issue is what happens globally and will the risk outweigh the benefits. Do we trust ChemChina-Syngenta to be honest in their disclosures.

Remember, It all began with terminator seeds and has evolved to the point where the concept of normal open pollination will no longer be necessary or even allowed.

Is editing the very essence of life by altering its genomes on a massive unregulated scale really a good idea?

Biohackers are already experimenting with genetic modification in their garages and spare bedrooms. What is there to prevent them from applying their new found skills to animals or even themselves in the future.

What could possibly go wrong...

Why would anyone want to eat food with pesticide built right in?

... advanced genetic manipulation techniques enabling high-precision editing ...

It's not even close to high precision.

A simple way to understand gene editing is to look at it the this way. A simple word processing spell checker identifies then corrects any errors in a sentence.

Their our word professors that don't ketch and fix everything ether. Yours didn't

The big 4 hope will make sure transgenic crops modified with CRISPR can will be largely exempted from regulation by the USDA or any other agency.

What's a couple extra billion dollars of grease worth to a corrupt government agency?

Thank you for sharing, I had no idea this is happening, hmm but def. made me "rethink"

Wow, I did not know that.
Thanks for sharing!

It is indeed only the tip of the iceberg - and it would be so important for more and more people to understand. I'm trying not to grow tired with explaining even the hybrid modification to anyone who is buying seeds to grow their own veggies and then like to believe this is organic food. It is not. Upvoted and resteemed - hoping many will read and investigate on this issue in depth!!!! Cheers from the Seven Mountains in Germany

And is anyone studying possible correlation between the plants these processes produce and declines in bee populations worldwide? Is that even a thing?

Some research is being done in Europe, but since much of the research is funded by big-agriculture, many US colleges and universities won't touch it because they fear losing funding.(University of Oregon-Dr. Elaine Ingham, for example)

Its a horribly vicious circle...

😔😔

Yes, I believe there is a definately correlation that can be proven with the reduction of bees. There are so many dangers here to be concerned about. Loss of nutrition, always feeling hungry, the ability to find true seeds of value, cancer, the list goes on. What turned out as a good thing goes bad quickly in the wrong hands. 🐓🐓

Great post! I have been to many a protest against these vermin. Their nasty way are being exposed but not quickly enough. I have gone completely organic at home but still an forced to eat poison in public.

Their power is great but its cracking, hopefully people will wake up to it. I constantly tell people an get the "oh but its not as bad here in England" YES IT IS my friends the hide it well. :)

Thanks so much for youur comments and we must spread the word on their dastardly deeds! I just don't understand how this could be allowed.🐓

They have lots of money and influence the media then people are oblivious

That's a true statement.🐓

Yes but sad but the hundredth monkey is not far away then we shall wake :)

So wish it didn't have to get to that stage! 🐓🐓

Oh when were all awake things will all drop into place. It's a good thing :)

The waking of the masses is a very slow process! I hope you are right. 🐓🐓
