About the easter thing in Norway ... it's one of the most important holidays actually. Forget about the religion thing, we've had spring holidays far longer than christianity, and many of the symbols used in the celebration (eggs, chickens, etc) has nothing to do with religion.

The modern Norwegian traditions are about skiing, going for a visit to the cabin, or for a boat trip. It's about eating oranges and the chocolate covered bisquits "Freia Kvikk-Lunsj", eating a lot of candies, reading crime novels.

When I was a child we also used to chop some branches off the trees, put them in water and see the leaves sprout, plus paint eggs and hang them from the branches. It seems like I haven't been very good at keeping this tradition.

The easter-bunny and egg-searching activities is not a part of the Norwegian tradition, but it's becoming. My eldest son managed to overtell him to make "egg-hunt" into a family tradition, and that one has been a great success ... at least, I think so, I don't know if the rest of the family agrees. Wherever we are, I'm hiding candies, typically egg-shaped candies at various places, and at every place I put in a note telling where to find the next one. Often we're with the boat at small Swedish villages, and I read up and find out of the small local attractions and best view places. If the children heads off in the wrong direction or don't find the treasures, I nudge them in the right direction.

The three next days are ordinary work-days according to the calendar, but the schools are having closed, and I think a majority of parents also take those days off from work. Thursday, Friday and Monday are "red days" on the calendar, ordinary workers having time off from work, and most people actually working on those days gets extra overtime bonus.

The easter can be quite a quiet and peaceful time in Oslo, probably you'll see less customers passing by.

I plan to go Friday for a long weekend and rent an airbnb :) I need to use a washing machine and bath would be nice and to rent a place for one night costs the same to take all my clothes to a launderette lol

I guess pagans had no need to make it religious, proberbly at a guess as they were farmers they would be celrebating the season for growing and thank the gods etc

It's a perfect day today, I'd totally be out myself if it wasn't for the slow, slow family, most of them still sleeping and two of them insisting that today they won't move at all from the screens ...

I almost want to go out alone, leaving the family behind, but I know I'll feel bad for being such a bad father, leaving the family home indoors and enjoying the good weather all for myself. I need at least one of the children to join.

If you have a dog then that's a great excuse to nip out for an hour ;)

hm. perhaps I should let our dog-crazy daughter have one for her next birthday. :p
