Komodo (Varanus komodoensis) is the largest of all species of lizards. Adult Komodo dragons are dull brown, dark gray, or reddish, while young ones are greenish with yellow and black stripes.
Komodos are carnivores and scavengers and are the top carnivores in their ecosystem. Komodo dragons sometimes capture live prey by hiding and ambushing, although the source of its food is mainly carrion. Komodo inhabit the islands of Indonesia such as Komodo Island, Flores, Rinca, and Padar. Komodo habitat consists of tropical savannah forest, lowland open habitat, beach, and dry river. Komodo is included in the group Varanidae, a group of squamates better known as monitor lizards.
