Homestead Gardening in Place with Less Rain Water

I have got some experience with a place where there is not much rain. And that place often suffers from the water issue during the summer. In fact the amount of rain that it gets they seem to be suffering for more than 8 months. Many people end up migrating to new places and try to move entire towns with them. Many such places are now ghost towns in states.

Now the part where I think this can be challenging is the place where you have literally nothing to go for nearby. As in a place where there is water is atleast 2 cities long more than 500 km. So that means in such places it's better not to go for homesteading.

I tend to find the places where I can have some decent rain and also some level of open deserted sort of area. This is so that I can have clear sky and watch over the ranch.

So how does the gardening work in such areas? Garden shade net is the answer in such case. It looks something like this.

1. Find an area where you want to setup the greenhouse.
2. Make sure to mow the ground as much as you can.
3. Cover the area with the greenhouse shade.
4. Add water supply pipe inside the greenhouse.
5. Make sure all the corners and possible areas are covered.
6. Find some sunlight blocking options to limit some sunlight from top and one side.

Once you set up the garden with such shade net. You can go ahead and experiment with the type of vegetables that you can grow in such place.

I'd say have few setups like this. Either get the bigger size shade net so that you can increase the amount of the vegetables and other plants you can add. Or start with something small. But if you have plans to live for longer time, I'd recommend getting the bigger shade net. Also try to find water storage source to supply to this shade.
