This is the fourth video in my Animals on the Homestead Series.

ANIMALS ON THE HOMESTEAD VIDEO 4 – PIGS

A FEW THINGS TO CONSIDER

  • Pigs can be used for other purposes besides just food.

  • Pigs will eat waste food and garden scraps.

  • Some varieties of pigs have lost a lot of their maternal instinct.

  • Not all dietary restrictions allow for the consumption of pig products.

  • Pigs can grow very large and become harder to manage or interact with.

  • Pigs can be used to till soil and prepare garden areas.

  • Pigs are intelligent and can be trained.

  • Piglets can be sold as a possible source of income (as can the adults).

Dear @papa-pepper wonderful information n your style is impressive that how you are holding pig without any fear. well are pigs still available on large scale.and inwhich country these are found?

Great series... what does the Diatomaceous Earth do for them?

It kills parasites like worms but it is natural. It is made up of the pulverized remains of fossilized hard shelled sea critters.

Much Obliged!

This post gave lot's of information about animal #homesteading

You are a real farmer, you have crazy posts, I'm interested in how to get a silver steem @papa-pepper

Thanks for the info. We're thinking about a couple pigs for the homestead to clear certain areas and for food later. Making the move to our homestead in late winter.

it's cool to see real farmers steeming. There's definately a need for this info for people who want to change their lifestyle

Yesterday, i got to witness a pig nursing her piglets. Though I felt bad her movement was constricted with a fence. I also witness a pig being slaughtered. Yay

I have never taken the pig as a food... Lots of unknown information about this animal I have come to know from this post... Thanks for sharing...

I appreciate you Pops! Thanks for caring and sharing! God Bless & Keep You

Reminds me of "Barter Town"... Master Blaster!

Your menagerie grows papa-pepper! Such entertainment. Thank you

i lovvvvveeeeeeee pigs

When we were farming, pigs were my favorites!!

I didn't know pigs could be used to till soil. Kinda put two and two together and could work it out, but I didn't. Great tip been a veggie probably wouldn't eat them, but different situation being all organic and happy maybe I would. Anyway don't need to think about that yet :)

Those are some healthy looking pigs - what great pics you posted. Iv'e never raised any livestock before - it's great to see people still in touch with natural living like you share on your blog. I wish all the best for you. Keep the great pics coming - it lets me live vicariously through your blog.

you have to be careful because the mother sometimes lies down and crushes the little pigs

Thanks for the info. I wonder if the DE is used to get rid of parasites?
