BACK AT IT - WITH GRANDPA-PEPPER!

in homesteading •  6 years ago

After hanging out with the father of @mama-pepper down in Texas, we now have the opportunity to hang out with @grandpa-pepper too, since he came down to visit from Wisconsin.

The @little-peppers were excited too. Not just because they get to see both of their grandpas within a short period of time, but also because they did not have to drive to Texas and Wisconsin to see them both, only Texas.

ANOTHER HAND, MORE HELP

The thing about @grandpa-pepper is, is that he understands how much work we still have to get done around here. Yes, he likes to hang out and enjoy time with my family, but he also likes to help. Having another full grown man around is sure a step up, although my five year old "Monster Truck" does pull his weight.... he just doesn't weigh much...

@Grandpa-Pepper asked me to prioritize my projects, and getting the skirting on the mobile home in preparation for the cold took the top of the list. Since there were some part that needed to be fixed first, we had to remove some of the siding and to evaluate the wood underneath. In at least a few spots the rain water was given free access to the wood underneath, but I knew this when I bought it. Now is the time to replace it and finish getting this place set up.

In our typical style, almost everything will be saved and reused. We had at least three different types of screws that we are taking out, plus a variety of nails. We will be using new screws with rubber washers on them when we replace the wood and siding, so this bucket will be saved for other less important projects.

I'll be adding to the insulation too, and using some treated plywood to cover the exposed parts. The rotting OSB wasn't exactly going to get the job done, and while I hate spending money on things like this, it must be done. I hope to get some major work done tomorrow, since I just returned from a late night supply run to Missouri.

I know that it may not look like progress since we are undoing things, but we need to in order to do it right. Soon this mobile home will be skirted and ready for the winter, and after that I can start working on porches and decks for it. Of course I've got other projects as well, but this one will get finished first. I'll try to make a video of our efforts tomorrow, and @bluerthangreen may even pass by to lend a hand. Either way, it's great to have my parents in for a visit, and to be blessed my the efforts of @grandpa-pepper.

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

proof-of-progress

Until next time…

Oh, how cool! The Grand-Pepper! That is so awesome that he took the drive and saved the kids time in the car.

Many hands sure make the load lighter
