I think it'll work!

This idea rocks! I only thought of it yesterday, but after fighitng the chickens for a while because they wouldn't leave my American Gooseberry plants alone, I finally thought up a way to outsmart them. Because we've got plenty of rocks around here, I used what I had, and the price was right!

      you can also put wire down on the dirt, if you can't lug stones around; but the stones also
      block the sun & wind from drying out the soil, and they'll allow more insects to be around; chickens can be a bit too thorough sometimes...
